The 29th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the IAP was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from 29 September to 2 October 2024.

The Conference was attended by numerous countries and international organisations, wherein Mr Veli ÜNAL and Mr Mehmet Emre SARIYILDIZ, Rapporteur Judges of the Foreign Affairs and Project Bureau, represented the Council.

The main theme of the Conference was "The Role of the Prosecutor in Upholding the Rule of Law", and the sub-sessions addressed the position of the prosecutor in relation to other branches of government, ensuring equality between the prosecution and the defense, the role of the prosecutor in criminal proceedings, the situation of victims and witnesses in the criminal justice system, examples of good practice on domestic violence, and various issues related to international judicial cooperation.

The Conference provided an opportunity to establish contacts with the President of the IAP, Mr Juan Bautista Mahíques, as well as with the prosecutor generals and representatives of various countries. Furthermore, during the bilateral meetings, the interlocutors were informed about the judicial system of our country and the structure and functioning of our Council. As well as this, steps were also taken to improve bilateral relations and increase cooperation.
