On 14 November 2024, Dr Faik ZEYDAN, President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq, Majid Abdulreda Hassan Al-LACHAWI, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ankara, and the accompanying delegation paid a working visit to our Council. The visit, which begun with a cordial greeting from Mr Mehmet Akif EKİNCİ, Acting President of the Council, Mr Atila ÖZTÜRK, Secretary General, Mr Osman Nuri YİĞİT, Chairman of the Inspection Board, and Dr Müjgan KARYAĞDI and Mr Sinan EKİCİ, Deputy Secretaries General, provided an opportunity to gain a closer insight into the judicial systems of the two countries. 

A presentation was made to the guest delegation on the structure and functioning of the Council and its reform activities. In the question-answer session held after the presentation, the delegations had the opportunity to discuss in detail the issues of mutual interest and thus to evaluate the similarities and differences between the judicial systems.

During the meeting, where a fruitful exchange of ideas was held within the framework of basic principles including the protection of the independence of the judiciary, ensuring legal security and the efficient functioning of justice, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq also provided information on the functioning of their institutions. Both delegations expressed a strong commitment to increase mutual information sharing and develop joint projects in the field of judiciary and emphasized their determination to make future cooperation more comprehensive.

The visit was instrumental in further strengthening the friendly relations between their countries and the co-operation in the field of judiciary. The visit concluded with the exchange of messages of mutual goodwill and cooperation, followed by the presentation of a plaque to the guest delegation and taking of a group photograph.
